Netflix's drama series Greenleaf is coming to an end. The television show premiered its five seasons since , but one of the protagonists of the show, Merle Dandridge, showed her allegiance Executive Producer Oprah Winfrey's leadership. She opened about the final emotional episodes and revealed how Oprah Winfrey helped to shape her career. Dandridge also referred to Winfrey as her 'sis. When you're in a community with somebody like that who doesn't do anything without checking in and who is also such a clear communicator — she's so intentional about what she puts out into the world — you know what you're doing that is meaningful. Furthermore, she said, 'It has made me much more thoughtful about every bit of art that I do.

The Defender had a chance to talk with Dandridge about her time as a theater student at Roosevelt University, now the Chicago College of Performing Arts, the complexities of the business and playing the role of Grace Greenleaf. In high school in Nebraska, I was a bit of an introvert. Here, I was raised in a very homogenous culture in Nebraska and I took Drama and found a way out of my shell.

She attended Papillion La Vista High School and participated in the play production class and theater department there. Dandridge began her career appearing in Chicago theatre productions.
